Was The Japan Earthquake The Worst and Most Significant in History?

The Japan earthquake that struck March 11, 2011 along with the resulting tsunami and the damage to some of the nuclear reactors might go down as the worst earthquake in human history so far! How is the Japan earthquake of March 11, 2011 different from all previous earthquakes?

1) The economic factor! While the Japan earthquake is certainly not the earthquake that has caused the most human deaths, so it is not the worst in that category. One of the big differences of the Japan earthquake when compared to previous ones is the economic factor. Previous earthquakes have not caused such great economic consequences to the whole world but only to the area or country affected. It is the worst because it struck Japan which is a major economic world power, ranked as number three after the United States and China. The economic ramifications will be hard and long. It will have a ripple effect upon the whole world in the days to come.
